๐Ÿค Microsoft has signed an agreement to purchase 100,000 tonnes of biochar carbon removal credits from Indian project developer Varaha over the next 3 years.

๐ŸŒฑ The credits will be generated from Varahaโ€™s biochar project which will use cotton as feedstock sourced from smallholder farmers in the state of Maharashtra, India.

๐ŸŒ The agreement will the fund the development of 18 gasification reactors across Indiaโ€™s cotton belt over 15 years and the total projected removal volume is expected to surpass 2 million tonnes of COโ‚‚ over the project's lifetime.

โœจ This is Microsoftโ€™s first biochar credit agreement with an Asian supplier.

๐Ÿ“ˆ With 118K+ tonnes delivered to date, Varaha is the second-largest durable CDR supplier by volume delivered.

โฌ† Varaha moves up to 11th on CDR.fyi Suppliers Leaderboard, with over 491K tonnes sold to date.
