This week saw some key developments in durable CDR, as the UK saw its first BECCS facility get greenlit, while a public survey revealed the UK’s preferences for CDR policies and Meta, along with Georgia Tech and CuspAI released a new database to help identify sorbents in Direct Air Capture technologies.

Evero was selected by the UK government to enter negotiations to transform its Evero Ince biomass plant to become the UK’s first BECCS facility, aiming to remove 217,000 tonnes of CO₂ annually while generating clean energy.

Oakland, California-based DAC company Noya announced that it is ceasing operations 5 years after its launch. The company had previously raised an $11M Series A round in 2023 to scale up sorbent manufacturing for its technology.

Carbon Balance Initiative and CO₂RE published the findings of a survey of 2,110 UK adults, which points towards strong public preferences for compliance-based CDR policies and producer responsibility.

Meta, in collaboration with Georgia Institute of Technology and CuspAI, released the Open DAC 2025 (ODAC25) dataset, comprising nearly 70 million new data points on DAC sorbents, to help identify efficient materials in the technology.

Puro.earth released a new report analyzing the biochar market’s growth, performance, and evolving dynamics from its early adoption stages through June 2025. The key finding states that Puro-certified biochar CORCs account for 43% market deliveries to date.
