We are back with another edition of This Week in CDR, a weekly round-up of the top news, developments, and market updates from the world of durable carbon removal.
This week saw some key developments in durable CDR, as Bio-Logical and Rubicon Carbon signed an offtake agreement for 15,000 tonnes of biochar CDR, while Exomad Green signed the largest biochar spot agreement to date, in a deal facilitated by Supercritical. Deep Sky’s Alpha facility in Innisfail, Alberta, commenced operations less than 12 months after it was launched.

Deals
Exomad Green sold 25,000 tonnes of biochar CDR via Supercritical, in what is the largest biochar spot deal to date. Earlier this year, Supercritical had become Exomad Green’s exclusive distribution partner for its 2025 spot credits.
Kenya-based biochar developer Bio-Logical signed an offtake agreement with Rubicon Carbon for 15,000 tonnes of CDR. The tonnes will be delivered by the end of 2027 from Bio-Logical’s first operating facility near Mt. Kenya.
Partnerships
Carbon Business Council and World Ocean Council launched the Marine Carbon Dioxide Removal Coalition (mCDR Coalition), uniting companies, nonprofits, and academics to coordinate research, policy engagement, and governance in the field.
Biochar Life partnered with Corus International’s Indonesia team to scale biochar production, building local capacity to convert agricultural residuesinto biochar and deliver high-quality carbon removal credits for Southeast Asian and global customers.

Deep Sky’s Alpha facility in Innisfail, Alberta, began operations, marking North America’s first-ever sequestration of CO₂ via direct air capture. The site hosts multiple DAC units to accelerate optimization and scale.
Research and Reports

Natural Resources Canada issued a Request for Proposal seeking a qualified contractor for a regulatory analysis report on mCDR technologies, covering environmental feasibility and a review of Canadian regulatory and policy frameworks.
Exomad Green announced that its Riberalta biochar facility received a BeZero Carbon AA rating, signaling high credit quality and robust permanence, as the company scales Bolivia-based biochar carbon removal production.
The International Air Transport Association (IATA) published a new report, outlining the critical role of CDR in aviation’s net-zero goals, highlighting market challenges, policy frameworks, and opportunities for airlines to engage in the CDR market.
