Reasons to Purchase CDR
To reach net zero, the world will need more than deep emissions cuts — it will need to actively remove carbon dioxide from the atmosphere. That's where carbon dioxide removal (CDR) comes in.
The IPCC's AR6 mitigation pathways show that achieving global net zero will require gigaton-scale deployment of CDR, reaching up to around 10 Gt of CO₂ removals per year by mid-century. Today, however, durable CDR supply remains well below 0.01 gigatonnes, implying a required scale-up of hundreds to over a thousand times within the next few decades.
While this is a massive gap, it also marks a key moment for companies, who already have strong reasons to engage with CDR today. These include financial reasons (such as planning for rising marginal abatement costs and securing future supply), strategic reasons (strengthening credible net-zero commitments and meeting investor expectations), and regulatory and policy reasons (as disclosure requirements and climate-claim rules tighten).
