The Data

What kind of data is published on CDR.fyi?

We track order, issuance, project, and investment data related to durable CDR with a permanence of hundreds to thousands of years.

What methods does CDR.fyi track?

Durable CDR orders, which we define as having a permanence of hundreds to thousands of years (full list of methods displayed in this post), that are certified on a registry or self-certified with a third-party accreditor.

We periodically review and update the methods. If you would like CDR.fyi to consider the modification or introduction of a tracked method, email us at team@cdr.fyi.

How can I submit data?

You can submit data through the CDR.fyi Portal, or by emailing a spreadsheet to data@cdr.fyi.

How complete is CDR.fyi's coverage of the durable CDR market?

We estimate that we are tracking 95+% of the volume of publicly disclosed durable CDR contracts. Omissions include:

  • Disclosed but private purchasers account for ~1–2% of the known volume. We record these internally, but they are displayed as "Not Disclosed".
  • Announced without volume represents, in our estimation, ~1–2% of total volume. We record these without volume and flag them as "Placeholder" orders until the tonnage is confirmed.
  • Later-disclosed deals are backfilled as soon as they are announced, with the lag typically varying from weeks to a few months. Examples include an order being closed in December but announced in January, or closed earlier in the year but revealed at an industry conference or event.
  • Unknown-unknowns that do not fall into any of the above categories almost certainly exist. The largest deal we became aware of, which did not fall into any of the three categories above, accounted for less than 0.1% of market volume.

Where does your data come from?

Direct supplier uploads (via the Portal), purchaser disclosures, press releases, registry filings, and integration with market actors.

How often is the database updated?

Daily. New contracts are typically live within 24 hours of confirmation.

How do you ensure data quality?

Entries are cross-referenced and reconciled with counterparties and/or public documents, processed through internal algorithms, manually reviewed as appropriate, and flagged for supplier confirmation inside the Portal's verification workflow.

How do you ensure you are not double-counting?

We review submissions from different parties, both algorithmically and manually, to identify common markers. When we find them, we either delete the additional record, or follow up with one or more of the submitters to determine the correct information.

Can organizations submit or correct data?

Yes. Any market actor, such as suppliers, purchasers, marketplaces, or other intermediaries can self-report via the Portal; submissions undergo verification before publication.

I am aware of orders that are not displayed or have incomplete information. How can I report them?

We welcome the disclosure of additional information to increase transparency and trust in the ecosystem. Reach out to us at team@cdr.fyi to share the information.

Do you track non-durable (e.g., nature-based) CDR?

We now list high-quality afforestation/reforestation deals at nbs.cdr.fyi. At present, these are excluded from durable totals to maintain clarity.

Who at CDR.fyi can access the data?

Please view our Data Management Policy.

Can I use the CDR.fyi data?

You are welcome to post visualizations of the data or quote figures, with attribution, as outlined in our Terms of Service.

Can I download the CDR.fyi data?

Data Partners (Contributor level and above) and Platform Subscribers (Team level and above) can download data they have filtered on Data Explorer or from responses obtained using AI Data Scientist.

What if I know some data is missing?
